FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO I NEED TO RENT A CAR?
That depends on the type of experience you want to have. You do not NEED a car as there are plenty of amenities on site and other ways to get around when needed. From the local bus, taxi's, private drivers, or even a fellow neighbour in the community.
If you want to explore often then you will want to rent a car and for the best rates I suggest using a local company like ADOBE Rent A Car over the big name brands.
WHERE CAN I BUY FOOD?
We have a variety of restaurants around Tambor from our on site Beach Front Rancho Resturant to many more restaurants all around us. For at home meals we have an ON SITE mini convenience store and every Sunday a fresh farmers market truck of fruits & veggies arrives 10am. Up the street there is another corner store as well as a large grocery store MEGA SUPER in the main town of Cobano or Paquera (about a 20 min drive either direction.)
HOW DO I GET THERE?
There are plenty of ways to arrive in our area.
Charter Airplane (25min) from either airport San Jose or Liberia you can fly Sansa Air (or any other charter company directly to the Tambor Air Strip)
Private Shuttle (3hrs) a driver will be able to pick you up from the airport and drop you off directly to your door. We like Shuttle Santa Teresa its about $200 for a private van. ($50pp when covid is over & we an mix/mingle)
Car Rental (4hrs from San Jose with ferry or 3.5hrs from Liberia) This is my preferred method as we love renting from ADOBE Car Rentals and having a vehicle at our disposal any time.
Taxi & Ferry: Taxi's drive FAST here so buckle up! A Taxi from San Jose to The Ferry is about $100 and then the ferry ride is under $5 per person. Once you arrive on the other side another Taxi from Paquera to Tambor is about $30.
IS THE COMMUNITY SAFE?
Our community is probably one of the safest ones I've experienced. We are in a gated community so proof of ID is required to enter and many people LIVE in this area so it's a great mix between Tico's (locals) Canadians & other nationalities living AND renting together.
Kids tend to play soccer on the beach, with each other on the side streets or even at the club house pool.
Like any where in the world you'll always want to keep your whits about you and not be flashy with your money or accessories but it's easy to say that this community is as safe as they can get.
WHAT IS THE BEACH LIKE?
One word -Unbelievable.
This beach has very few access points so it is 8km of the best secluded sandy ocean front bay I've ever experienced. We often see sand dollars and crabs on the beach because of how protected this eco system is.
To obtain access you'll need to go through our Los Delfines Community, up the beach at Barcelo Resort or main Tambor Strip or an unknown side street. Which is why it's often pretty secluded it's not an over populated tourist destination.
Sometimes after a major store the ocean will dump international garbage onto our beautiful beaches so I personally have a rule to carry a trash bag with me after a storm & do some beach walk clean ups!
HOW CLOSE ARE WE TO THE BEACH?
La Casa Azul is about an 8 minute walk from the villa to the beach path entrance.
Villa Serenidad is about a 1 minute walk from the villa to the beach path entrance.
