How To Get To & Around Playa Tambor, Santa Teresa Or Montezuma Costa Rica.

Updated: May 7, 2021

After landing in the main San Jose or Liberia airports you'll have 5 fun and easy ways to reach our villa. I prefer flying to the villa through Sansa Air and taking the scenic route by renting a car and driving back to the airport. These are the most common ways to reach our villa in Tambor. If you're headed to a neighbouring town you simply just follow the paved road it takes you to both towns easily. Airplane -Fastest Route: For The Simplicity Seekers Direct flights operate daily from the San Jose & Liberia airports through many charters flights. The short flight is approx. 25 minutes and when you land you're beside the golf course our villa resides on. Here are a few options for you to price out & be sure to NOTE their luggage requirements some of these companies only allow for 30lbs of luggage and usually charge $1.00 USD per lb.

Private Shuttle -Top Quality Service Route. We recommend Shuttles Santa Teresa they will pick you up at the Liberia or San Jose Airport & take you directly to our villa in the Los Delfines Golf & Country Club Community for $50 per person USD. ($200-300 USD during covid as it's now a private shuttle) To book WhatsApp +506-8662-3431 or shuttlessantateresa@gmail.com They even do tours to Isla Tortuga for the full day for approx. $50 per person.

Private Driver-Easy & Affordable Let us know if you prefer a private drive from the airport or even around Tambor. Many of us in the community use Milton & Jose for day trips or even grocery runs over having a car rental just sitting in the laneway. Bus -Cheapest Route: For The Adventure Seekers. Taking a bus from San Jose to Cobano, stopping in Tambor will take about four hours including the ferry ride. The fee is approx. $55 USD per person. There are two daily bus schedules operated by Transportes Cobano. Bus Schedule

*USING THE BUS locally to get to the grocery store is super easy as well the bus stop is outside the main gates. Be sure to have exact change. Car Rental -Most Fun Route: For The Cultural Seekers The new highway to Puntarenas from San Jose airport is about 90-120 minutes depending on traffic. From there you'll catch a ferry to Paquera which will be a 75 min beautiful ride across the water then a quick drive to the villa. You may also take the ferry to Naranjo, however, the roads are dirt & gravel.

When renting a car we suggest using Adobe Rent-A-Car out of San Jose Or Liberia they are a local company that has clear and affordable pricing with the most inclusions such as free mileage on rentals less than 30 days. Get a FREE QUOTE ASAP because in high season all car rental companies can sell out. If you change your mind when you arrive to Play Tambor BUDGET Rental Center is near by and can pick you up / drop you off for your rental days.

**NOTE: you can also rent ATV's from Budget Rental near us if you feel like ripping around for the day. Driving From San Jose: Drive including the ferry is about 4hrs. Break down: 1.5hr drive to the Punteranus ferry, 70 min ferry ride, 20 min drive to los Defines (located on the left side headed towards Montezuma -stay on the paved roads) 3 Tolls (470 col, 790 col, 600 col) so it's best to keep a few 1000 colones bills ready. Ferry ride is about 70 min tickets Keep your ticket accessible as you'll need to present this to the boarding people. Driving from Liberia: This is a straight drive for about 3.5hrs. We suggest using WAZE app on your phone with a roaming plan for GPS. Gas prices in Costa Rica are very similar to Canadian prices. Taxi & Ferry-Simple & Affordable Route: When Splitting Costs. We took a cab from the ferry (Punteranus side) to the airport for $100 USD, The ferry is $2.00 USD per person when walking on the board ($25 with a car) and the remaining cab ride from Paquera to Tambor is about $40 USD. FERRY SCHEDULE HERE

If you land at 4pm or later into SJO -We suggest you hire a driver to drive AROUND the peninsula or stay the night in a hotel and explore San Jose for the day as the last ferry is 6pm and it's not enough time to get though customs & make the ferry in time.

We also suggest the ADVENTURE IN located near the SJO airport for any layovers they are super detailed and have a free shuttle if you sign up for one.

**As with any travel plans be sure to research each company to ensure they suit your needs. We are not liable for any issues that may arise from travel arrangements made. All pricing listed here is based on our own experience and & subject to change without warning.
